Jim Carrey Comedy ‘Pierre Pierre’ Has Foresight
Jim Carrey’s new comedy Pierre Pierre hasn’t had an easy road into production. Fox Searchlight first bought the spec script about “a self-indulgent French nihilist who steals the Mona Lisa from the Louvre in the hope of selling it so he can finally move out of his parents house” for about $1,000,000 with Jason Reitman attached to direct. Then Reitman left and the film was without a director.
Now, Borat director Larry Charles is signed to direct Carrey in the $30 million dollar budgeted comedy. Foresight Unlimited, headed by Mark Damon, has partnered with Mandalay Vision and Lago Films on the project. With them on distribution deals are already underway worldwide, and Fox is talking about handling the US rights at some point.
The budget was originally set at $20 million, but got an increase due to the caliber of the supporting cast. No one other than Carrey has signed on, but apparently the actors interested helped to bolster the budget by another $10 million.
Pierre Pierre is set to shoot this summer across Europe so expect casting announcements to come soon.
Do you like Carrey? I was never a fan of his Ace Ventura films. I tend to like his more subdued roles in movies like The Truman Show.
