Jim Carrey to return for Bruce Almighty sequel?

Not a remake or a reboot, but a sequel may be in store for Bruce Almighty, with everyone hoping for a Jim Carrey return...
You can just imagine those meetings, can't you? Unable to think of new ideas and unwilling to read what I suppose is a casually dismissed pile of amazing scripts, movie execs are becoming more and more prone to mining hits of the past, this time with Jim Carrey's comedy vehicle Bruce Almighty.

It's a strange choice, as Carrey hasn't had anything resembling a hit since 2008's slightly derivative Yes Man, but it could offer the comeback he's in need of. Personally, we feel that the actor is at his best in less obvious fare like The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I Love You Philip Morris, but judging by the ticket sales for that last one, we may be in the minority.
In a twist of fate, Carrey's next movie will be Burt Wonderstone opposite Steve Carrel, who inherited the Almighty franchise from him all those years ago. After they reunite, Carrey looks set to reclaim said franchise, as Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (Hot Tub Time Machine, Yes Men) have been hired to write a sequel.
It's early days, and nothing has been confirmed as of yet. We'd assume they couldn't make an Almighty film without Morgan Freeman's God popping up, so there's also that uncertainty.
