It's snow joke! A snug Anna Friel steps out in an over the top fur hat and moon boots as she leaves the theatre in freezing conditions

With snow having gripped much of the UK, Anna Friel made sure she was ready to do battle with the bitter weather as she stepped out on Friday night. Leaving London's Vaudeville theatre following her performance in the West End revival of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, the 36-year-old actress sported a somewhat over-the-top furry hat. Balancing precariously on her head, the oversized Russian-style headgear was teamed with a pair of matching moon boots, no doubt to ensure she didn't slip over on the icy pavements. The former soap star completed her casual look with a bright orange long-sleeved top and skinny jeans, which highlighted her slender frame. Keeping her straight brunette locks loose around her shoulders, Anna made sure to show off her natural beauty with minimal make-up as she left the theatre with a group of pals. Uncle Vanya, which opened in October 2012, is due to close three weeks earlier than planned and will now run until 26 January, instead of February 16. The talented thespian is currently taking on role of Yeléna and appears alongside Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael, who plays Sonya in the critically-acclaimed reworking of the Anton Chekhov classic. So I went to Moscow for a few days and went to the Chekhov museum and asked lots of questions.' When asked about her approach to the melancholic role, she added: 'You can either play it for the comedy or you can play it for the dramatic content and it becomes so dour and so dark that you have to laugh. After such a long time projecting her voice in the theatre, Anna is going to be making several appearances back in cinemas this year. She has completed filming The Look Of Love and Having You, and is about to begin work on World War I romantic drama, The Poisoners.
